The Department of Health Services, Vihiga County in partnership with the National TB Program and Cepheid Diagnostics has acquired GeneXpert machines for early detection of tuberculosis, including drug-resistant strains. This is in a bid to enhance early diagnosis and treatment & eliminate tuberculosis and leprosy by 2030.
The machines with 99% early detection accuracy are crucial in reducing reinfection rates and curbing disease spread.
Beyond TB, this cutting-edge equipment also tests for HPV, hepatitis, and other infections, broadening disease surveillance and strengthening public health response.
The machines are Installed at Vihiga County Referral Hospital, Hamisi and Emuhaya Hospitals and Integrated with the National Laboratory Information Management System, to ensures real-time data transmission for swift medical intervention, reduced Turn-around-time(TAT) and improved patient outcomes inline with Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo‘s manifesto.
