CONSULTATIVE MEETING
His Excellency Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo this morning convened a consultative meeting of the committee tasked with selection of County flag and other county symbols.
The discussions were centered around the creation of a County Anthem and establishing a County Band. This committee has also been given the responsibility to develop cultural symbols through the Department of Gender, Culture, Youths, Sports, and Social Services.
Governor Ottichilo emphasized the importance of extensive public engagement during this process, involving a wide range of key stakeholders across the county. These stakeholders include educational bodies like the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), as well as the youth, women, the business community, religious groups, the county peace committee, legal experts, the county commissioner’s office, people living with disabilities, elders, civil society organizations etc.
This inclusive approach aims to ensure that the newly created anthem and band reflect the diverse voices and cultural heritage of the Vihiga County community.
