CANADIAN NURSES FOR AFRICA MOTORCYCLE AMBULANCES DONATION

The County Government of Vihiga has today received a donation of four motorcycle ambulances from the Canadian Nurses for Africa to support primary health service provision.
The motorcycle ambulances fitted with sidecar platforms will transport patients to improve referral at community level thus promoting access to maternal and newborn healthcare services and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through Community Health Promoters (CHPs).
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the County Headquarters, Vihiga County Governor, Dr. Wilber Ottichilo noted it as a significant initiative to strengthen healthcare for communities in Vihiga County, especially those in remote areas.
“Today is a key milestone because we are introducing a new type of ambulance that will be able to reach remote areas linking residents to the nearest health facilities addressing transportation challenges and improving access to essential healthcare services,” said the Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo.
The motorcycle ambulances will be operating at Sabatia Sub-County Hospital, Kegondi, Givudimbuli, Bugina, Evoji, Munoywa, Inyali, Lwenye, and Kisatiru Health Centres in Sabatia Sub-County.
Canadian Nurses for Africa has been partnering with the County Government of Vihiga through the Department of Health Services to strengthen maternal and infant health services at the community level by supporting continuous capacity building for Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and Community Health Assistants (CHAs) and giving advice to pregnant women during the pregnancy period. The organisation also carries out periodic medical camps offering free medical services to community members at various sites as well as providing tungiasis treatment and follow-up.
