LAUNCHED THE SOLARIZATION OF LOW INCOME HOUSEHOLDS PROJECT

Department of Environment, Water, Energy, Natural Resources and Climate Change today launched the Solarization of Low Income Households Project, a Ward based project in Central Maragoli ward-Vihiga Sub County.
Speaking during the event, Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Director Aquila Lwanga said 25 low income households from the ward have each benefited with a Solar panel and solar power kit containing 4 fluorescent tubes, outdoor sensor bulb, a charging system and a battery which can also support electrical appliances such as Televisions.
According to Aquila, the project seeks to promote clean lighting (solar powered) in households, an initiative that will in turn reduce overdependence on fossil fuel for lighting such as the lantern lamps.
She encouraged the beneficiaries to act as ambassadors for clean lighting by taking good care of the whole package for sustainability of the project.
On her part, Area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Pauline Amwata said the solar kits have been fully paid and beneficiaries are a pilot for the project that she hopes will be expanded further to accommodate more low income households.
