MARAGOLI HILLS ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION CONFERENCE

County Government of Vihiga will plant 24 million trees by 2032 as a commitment towards the National Government’s 15 Billion trees initiative. This is according to Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo who was a keynote speaker during this year’s Maragoli Hills Ecosystem Restoration Conference (MaraHillEREC) 2025 at Ideleri Primary School in Vihiga Sub County.
Themed “A Collaborative Restoration of Maragoli Hills Ecosystem: A commitment to Care for our Common Home,” the conference provided an opportunity for capacity building to communities around Maragoli Hills on Environmental Conservation, Climate Change Adaptation and Climate Smart Agriculture.
Governor Ottichilo took the opportunity to appreciate Catholic Diocese of Kakamega through the Catholic Justice and Peace Department – Diocese of Kakamega (CJPD) for the noble initiative that drives the agenda of Maragoli Hills Forest Restoration.
He further called for collaborative approach to restore the Maragoli Hills Forest, appreciating all partners that have come on board to support County Government of Vihiga achieve this.
According to the County Boss, his administration is implementing an Apiculture project at Maragoli Hills Forest and will set up a honey processing plant to benefit the locals.
